Frames and installation
Four frame systems, all delivered assembled.
The door is half the job. We make four frame systems, all delivered assembled, all with an acoustic seal and three adjustable 3D hinges. Tell us your wall thickness and finished floor and the frame arrives ready to set.
1. Prehung jamb (standard)
- Stiles and head joined mechanically, glued-laminated, will not twist
- Acoustic seal in white, brown, black or clear
- Overlapping (rabbeted) hinging on 3 adjustable 3D hinges; flush butt hinges optional
- Any jamb depth, made to measure
- Can be built fire-rated 30 min
- Delivered assembled
Best for: new construction, framed openings.
2. Surface-mounted frame, 1-9/16″ (40 mm)
- Mortise-and-tenon joints, glued-laminated
- Brown acoustic seal
- 3 adjustable 3D hinges
- Keeps the full passage width and height
- Sets on the finished floor, no fitting of the leaf on site
- Frame made to size, delivered assembled
Best for: renovation where the opening is already finished.
3. Wrap-around jamb with casing both sides
- Wood: biscuit joints standard, mitered on request; casings solid or veneered, 3-1/8″ x 7/8″ (80 x 22 mm), wider casings available
- MDF: casings 2-3/8″ (60 mm) standard, wider available
- Acoustic seal white, brown, black or clear; 3 adjustable 3D hinges, flush butts optional
- Dresses the whole wall thickness with no visible fastener
- Sets on the finished floor, made to the millimeter, no extra trim or cover strip
- Delivered assembled, installed at the end of the job
- Options: invisible hinges, molded casings (rustic or airplane-wing profile), security lock
Best for: plaster or masonry walls, historic homes, any room where the trim matters. The high-end look.
4. Invisible flush frame
- Water-resistant MDF core with laminate, acoustic seal, invisible hinges, magnetic lock (required), raw or pre-primed
- Configurations: flush on the push side (walls up to 2-7/8″ / 72 mm, or thicker), flush push side 2-5/8″ to 3-1/2″ (66-88 mm), flush on the pull side, flush both sides
Best for: contemporary interiors where the door should disappear into the wall. Paint the door with the wall.
Transoms
- Fixed transom or continuous transom to the ceiling
- Works with all four frame systems, made to size
Handing
Left-hand push or right-hand push. Standing on the push side: if the door opens away from you to the left, it is left-hand push. If you are not sure, send a photo and we will tell you.
Note for installers
All frames arrive assembled and squared. Set plumb on the finished floor, shim at the hinge points, foam or pack, and hang the leaf. The 3D hinges give you about 1/8″ of adjustment in every direction after the fact.
